in 10 minutes and made the flight. It was a blue sky day in Vancouver
but only a short layover. We arrived in Beijing mid-day. It was quite
an impressive airport with very high arched ceilings and graceful
flowing lines highlighting the new Chinese style with plenty of
memories of old. After a pizza hut third dinner we boarded to Bangkok
and arrived in the middle of the night. The airport was still very
busy. We were able to buy a SIM card for under $20 with 500mb of 3g
data. We even got to call our families to let them know we arrived
safe! What a modern world. We stayed at a hotel near the airport. Very
clean and reasonably priced. Now we are enjoying eggs and coffee for
breakfast, not the traditional rice soup but...it's very warm and
humid just as we had hoped. Today we will head into Khao San road and
try to get our bearings.
